We are responsible for hearing and deciding on claims from people who think someone such as an employer or potential employer has treated them unlawfully.
Some examples of unlawful treatment claims that we may hear include:
- unfair dismissal
- discrimination on the basis of a protected characteristic e.g. age, sex, race, disability etc
- unfair deductions from pay
- breach of contract
Tribunals are like courts but are not as formal; for example, nobody wears a wig or a gown. However like a court it must act independently and cannot give legal advice.
Almost all final hearings are open to the public.
